Antique

By definition an antique piece is 100 years old or more. All the items listed in this category on the se trouver website are 100 years old or more and generally cover the period from 1700 to 1900.

These periods of time are usually described in terms of either their predominant decorative style or after the ruler of the time. Predominant styles during this period were the Rococo (1700-1760), Neoclassical (1760-1840) and the Revivalist (1840-1900), the latter being a reinvention of past history – medieval gothic and renaissance as examples. Predominant rulers of the time included the Georgian kings of England and Queen Victoria, the French Kings, Louis X1V to the ill fated Louis XV1 and Napoleon. Styles and rulers overlapped and each were influenced by the other. The Arts & Crafts movement (1880-1920) is also reflected here as it had much of its roots in the 19th century.
