This is a divine piece. It is a late Victorian silver plate and glass biscuit box. It consists of a pressed glass 'box' with a silver plate hinged lid decorated with flowers, foliage and a sphinx. It sits within a container decorated with swags and male figures in each of the corners. The handle is decorated with birds pecking at fruit on a tree or bush. It measures 21cm in width, 16cm in depth and approx 18cm in height. It is marked for manufacturers Boardman, Glossop & Co who operated in both London and Sheffield. The marks on this piece attest to their Sheffield works. A gorgeous piece.
